Toksport WRT looks back on a difficult ADAC GT Masters weekend at the Hockenheimring. In the first race on the traditional circuit, Maro Engel and Luca Stolz were left without a countable result. On Sunday, the duo collected seven valuable championship points. The lead in both the team and drivers’ championship has been lost for now.
Already in the two practice sessions on Friday it became clear that the Mercedes-AMG GT3 was not the strongest car in the field this weekend. With the eighth place in the first qualifying Luca Stolz still managed to get the maximum out of it, because Toksport WRT provided the best Mercedes in the whole starting field.
In the starting phase, which was characterized by tough duels, the German initially dropped back to eleventh position. However, during the mandatory pit stop the Mercedes-AMG GT3 was unfortunately blocked by a competitor and lost about 15 seconds. In the end, the duo was left with only 18th place.
Seven valuable championship points on Sunday
Sunday also did not start according to plan at first. When Maro Engel wanted to start his attack on the top position in qualifying, the red flag came out, so that in the end only the 15th starting position was on the books. In the starting phase, the Mercedes driver fought his way up to the top ten with a strong performance and handed over the AMG to his team mate. Luca Stolz continued the race to catch up and finally finished in ninth position. The duo thus collected further important championship points.
In the drivers’ championship Maro Engel and Luca Stolz dropped back to third position and Toksport WRT also had to give up the top position in the team championship for the time being. But in two weeks the Mercedes duo wants to strike back again: The next two races of the ADAC GT Masters will take place at the Sachsenring from October 2 to 4.
