After the successful season start in the ADAC GT Masters, Toksport WRT was also convincing at the home race at the Nürburgring: Maro Engel and Luca Stolz achieved a second place on Saturday with the Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evo. In the second race on Sunday, the duo finished seventh and thus collected important points. The lead in the team and driver championship was extended.
Even after the second of seven race weekends Toksport WRT is still considered a hot favourite for the championship in the “league of super sports cars”. The team from Quiddelbach, not far from the legendary Nürburgring, once again proved the potential of the Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evo at their home race. Although the Silver Arrow had to load up another five kilograms after adjusted Balance of Performance (BoP), Maro Engel and Luca Stolz achieved a strong podium finish.
In the first qualifying session on Saturday, Maro Engel missed the pole position by only 0.094 seconds and thus started the race from second place on the grid. The duo drove a great race, however Engel nor final driver Luca Stolz found their way to pass the leader. Considering the success weight of the Lausitzring, when the duo also finished second, the renewed podium finish is an important achievement.
Top ten result in the second race
In the second race on Sunday the Toksport WRT team scored important championship points again. They qualified for eleventh place on the grid, fought their way forward to seventh position and celebrated a strong top-ten result. Maro Engel and Luca Stolz extended their lead in the drivers’ championship. And Toksport WRT is still benchmark in the team classification.
The third stop of the ADAC GT Masters is in mid-September, from 18th to 20th September, at the Hockenheimring in Baden-Württemberg.
