Toksport WRT drivers Orhan Avcioglu and Burcin Korkmaz scored their first points in WRC 2 at RallyRACC Catalunya 2017. After a 3-day mixed surface rally, they were able to finish 8th in WRC2 and gained valuable experience for the future races.
Orhan Avcioglu said “It’s our first time in WRC2 and also the first time with the Fabia R5. It’s been a very positive rally for us, very valuable experience to test the Skoda on both gravel and tarmac. We tried to make progress all weekend to see where we are with the pace. We have room to improve which is positive. I’m grateful for the opportunity our team has given us, I must thank every member. The car worked like clockwork all weekend with no troubles.”
TOKSPORT WRT is participating with two crews in the 8th round of FIA World Rally Championship, 2016 Rally Finland which is held between 28 and 31 July.
Former Skoda WRC driver Janne Tuohino and his long time co driver Markku Tuohino will be driving TOKSPORT WRT’s Ford Fiesta R5. Veteran Finnish pilot will be competing in WRC2 category. Matti Koskelo and Rami Suorsa will be driving team’s other car Ford Fiesta RS WRC in RC1 class
The teams will be covering 334 km of special stages, 1370 km in total in Rally Finland which is known as Gravel Grand Prix, the fastest gravel rally on earth. Teams will be competing in 24 special stages in 4 days rally starting on Thursday. Finnish drivers’ dominance in the rally still continues since the first rally which was held in 1951. There are 54 victories by Finnish drivers in the last 65 years.
The only Turkish team competing in World Rally Championship, TOKSPORT WRT is aiming for success with their local drivers in this weekend’s Rally Finland.
Qatari driver Khalid AlSuwaidi, is competing in the fifth round of FIA World Rally Championship, Rally de Portugal in his TOKSPORT WRT prepared Ford Fiesta R5. Khalid AlSuwaidi – Marshall Clarke who is competing in FIA Middle East Rally Championship this season, will be starting to their third WRC rally of the season with TOKSPORT WRT. Sponsored by Culture & Sport Qatar Rally Team, the duo is aiming a podium result in WRC2 class. Rally de Portugal will start on 19 May Thursday and in the next four days the teams will cover 1684km in total where 368km is special stages.
